God Is Spirit
"GOD
is Spirit and, and His
worshipers must worship in Spirit
and in truth."
John
4:24
When JESUS was speaking to the woman at the well, He was telling her about the Holy Spirit that had yet to come at Pentecost ("His worshipers must worship in Spirit.") How better to worship the Father than to use the gift that the Spirit gives. The gift of speaking in tongues, when we speak in tongues we is speaking to the Father through the Spirit.
JESUS was explaining to the woman at the well that it didn't matter Where you worshiped but How you worshiped. But what's more, He wanted her to understand this ("GOD is Spirit.") If we go back to the very first chapter of the Bible, in Genesis 1:2, "The Spirit of GOD was hovering over the waters." JESUS was explaining to her that GOD is Spirit, The Spirit. And, He desires His people to worship Him, using one of the many gifts that GOD has blessed us with.
It is because GOD is the Spirit that we find that we can worship the Father in spirit. But, what GOD wants us to understand here in this passage is that the Spirit is Truth. The Father wants us to worship in spirit and In TRUTH. The Spirit is truth absolute and unchanging.
The truth has been shown to you through the Son, what are you going to get up and do about it?
